Stoping Fat From Forming
Friday, 04 January 2008 11:37
Researchers at the Albert Einstein college of medicine have recently published research identifying the basic mechanisms of how fat formation appears to occur. Two genes, FIT1 and FIT were both found to be "necessary for the accumulation of lipid droplets in cells". When these genes were amplified in mice, lipid formation in the body increased as a result. When the gene was suppressed in zebrafish, lipid formation was markedly increased. These findings show a great deal of promise for human fat formation. Using newly developed drugs, these effects of these genes may be dampened effectively preventing too much fat from ever forming in the body.
